Creighton University is a university located in Omaha, Nebraska. The university was founded as Creighton College in 1878 through a gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton, who stipulated in her will that a school be established in memory of her husband, prominent Omaha businessman Edward Creighton. Edward's brother, John Creighton, is credited with fostering and sustaining the university's early growth and endowment. Sitting on a 120-acre (0.49 km2) campus just outside Omaha's downtown business district, the university currently enrolls about 6,992 students. Once the sleepy-sounding American Institute of Commerce, based in Davenport, Iowa, this venerable business training school was absorbed by the Kaplan test preparation juggernaut in November 2000 and promptly re-arranged into Kaplan University. The transformation since the merger has been thorough and complete: with 25,000 full- or part-time students, all taking courses online, Kaplan University is now about the size of a state university and offers certificates, associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in one or more of more than a dozen different career training regimens, as well as Masters of Science degrees in Business, Education and Criminal Justice. Some of its degree-granting programs can be completed in as little as a year. In September 2006, Kaplan University announced an interesting twist to its online MBA program, which is now being offered in a novel collaboration with Newsweek magazine. Both companies are owned by the Washington Post.

Connect-Collaborate-Create The University of Nebraska at Omaha is the Omaha campus of the University of Nebraska system, and is the third-largest institution of higher education in Nebraska, after the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Metropolitan Community College. After its foundation as Omaha University in 1908, the institution became the public Municipal University of Omaha in 1931. It assumed its current name in 1968 following a merger into the University of Nebraska. The institution has a strong tradition of serving commuter students from within Omaha, but in recent years has developed student housing to better serve students from Nebraska, the United States, and the world for whom the commute is not convenient.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is a public academic health sciences center located on 42nd and Emile Street in Omaha, Nebraska. UNMC is one of the largest medical centers in the surrounding area within Nebraska and Iowa and is home to many students from around the state. There are many facilities in an area expanding from 40th and Leavenworth to 35th and up to Dodge Street. The University also has plans on expanding their facilities in order to accommodate more students in studies and also research. UNMC currently enrolls about 3,100 students, and its president is Harold Maurer.

Founded in 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri as a career training institution, Vatterott College has since that time expanded to a multi-campus institution with 19 campuses across the Midwest. The College provides career focused training and educational opportunities in the health care, business, computer science, and technical fields. Vatterott offers diploma, associate degree, and bachelor degree programs. Diploma programs range from 13 to 60 weeks in duration, and associate degree programs are between 80 and 90 weeks long.
